The fine print

Terms of use and privacy. It's short, it's honest, and nobody's going to quiz you on it. Using the patches, the servers or this site means you're cool with all of the below.

1. You bring the game

   THUG Online does not sell, ship or share Tony Hawk's Underground. The patches don't contain the game's levels, skaters, art, music or movies. You need your own copy of the 2003 PC game, obtained the honest way.

   No copy? Go find one. Thrift stores, attics, that one cousin.

2. What the patch actually is

   An unofficial, fan-made port of the game's executable for Windows, macOS and Linux, plus the script and language files it needs on top of your install. It changes files in the folder you unzip it into, so back up your game folder first if you're attached to it.

3. No warranty, no tears

   Everything here is provided “as is”, with no warranty of any kind. If the patch eats your save, your router sulks, your GPU sighs, or you bail a 900 in front of the whole lobby, that's on you, not us. We are not responsible for any damage, data loss, lost sleep or bruised egos.

   Helmets are free. Use one.

4. Be decent in the park

   No cheating, griefing, harassment, hate or spam, and no attacking or abusing the servers. Nicknames and chat should be things you'd say at a skate park with kids around.

   We can kick, ban, rename, wipe stats or reset rankings at our discretion, and change, pause or shut the service down at any time, for any reason (including “needed sleep”). It's a hobby project with no uptime promises.

5. What we keep about you

   Guests: nothing beyond the live session. Profiles: your email (never shown to anyone), a salted password hash, your nickname, your homie list and your game stats and scores. The servers keep request logs with IP addresses for a short while, to stop abuse and fix bugs.

   No ads, no trackers, no cookies on this site, and nothing is ever sold. To delete your profile, email us from the address you signed up with. This site only talks to our own servers: the patches are downloaded from here, the live numbers come from the online service.

6. Intellectual property & GameSpy

   THUG Online is a fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Activision, Neversoft, Beenox or GameSpy. Tony Hawk's Underground, its logos and artwork are the property of their owners and appear here only to say which game this is about. The GameSpy badge is a nod to the service that ran THUG online until 2014. It's gone; this is a homemade replacement written from scratch.

   We don't distribute the game and we don't mean to step on anyone's rights. If you own something here and want it changed or gone, email us and we'll sort it out quickly, no lawyers needed.
